Last week, Peel Regional Police briefed local Councillors on targeted enforcement at 156 Main Street North, where Regeneration Outreach operates, as well as the adjacent property at 150 Main Street North.
Launched on May 1, 2025, the initiative addressed criminal activity and neighbourhood safety concerns. The project resulted in 61 charges laid at and in the area surrounding Regeneration Outreach and Grace United Church (156 Main St. N), confirming persistent issues occurring both during and outside operating hours.Police identified ongoing patterns of disorder, trespassing, drug activity, and community disruption, consistent with what residents, schools, and businesses have reported for years. Below is some information which Peel Police have released on this project:

Accountability and Safety Expectations Moving Forward
Compassion and accountability must go hand in hand. Many nonprofits who serve Peel Region, including Knights Table, St. Louise Outreach Centre, and the Brampton Food Hub, provide social services while actively mitigating negative impacts on surrounding neighbourhoods. This level of responsibility and respect as a good neighbour is expected from all service providers.
Given the findings in the police report, future funding must be tied to accountability and behaviour management at its sites. It is reasonable to expect Regeneration Outreach and its landlord, Grace United Church, to:
- Actively participate in relocating to a more suitable location
- Update its operational model to align with regional homelessness strategies
- Collaborate with other community service partners to reduce redundancy and increase services to their guests
- Implement protocols to reduce illegal activity, loitering, and after-hours impact
- Report suspected criminal activity to Police
- Demonstrate responsibility for actions in its vicinity
The City continues to work with the Region of Peel toward a long-term solution. The Region’s Commissioner of Human Services has requested a meeting with the Regeneration Board, where the police findings and expectations for service improvements will be addressed. I will provide residents with updates following that discussion.
Our goal is clear: support vulnerable residents while restoring safety, dignity, and livability to the neighbourhood. The police report validates the experience of local residents and surrounding businesses and underscores the urgent need for reform of their operating model and relocation of services.
Brampton is a caring city. We will continue to advocate for solutions that provide compassion to those in crisis while ensuring neighbourhood safety and quality of life for all.
